I Guess We are Not Doing Circles!

     O.K, today was suppose to be our last day with circles but Adeline had different thoughts!  But hey, she is making choices, and the speech therapist is always after me about that.  

     I was planning on doing this simple circle matching game that I made  from a file folder and velcro.

  
     But Adeline had other plans, Rescue Heros!!!

     Adeline loves to play with her brother!


 I thought I would share some of the oral motor tools we are using right now.  About a year ago we had the chance to have an evaluation with Talk Tools.  This was one of the most informative evaluations we ever had.  It has taken me some time to put everything into our routine and some days are better than others but every little bit helps I believe.

Blowing Bubbles, this is fun and helps develop air flow.

   
 Blowing a Kazoo,  helps develop lip closure, practise making all kinds of sounds.  Adeline loves her kazoo.

      These plastic flutes that you can find at the dollar store can be a bit annoying but are also great for  lip closure and developing a good air flow.


     One of the most important for Adeline is this red chewy tube.  She has some jaw weakness along with jaw instability.  Chewing on this in sets of five on each,  five times a day is part of her plan.  I don't always get it in five times a day but we usually do more than five chews.  I have been trying to build her chews up.  Sometimes when she is watching her Baby You Can Read DVD, I will just give it to her to chew on.

     The chewy tubes are available in four colors, red is the second in the line up.  Next are green, and blue.        

   

Walking Takes A Lot of Time!!!!!

     It has been a couple of weeks since Adeline took her first steps and sometimes I feel like we are in the same spot.  I have to give her credit she is getting much better at walking with her cart and is trying to take a few steps by herself at times.  I have also noticed that she is bending down to pick things up rather than doing a complete drop.


  I am thankful for our progress,  I just never noticed all the small parts to walking and gaining the strength to get there.  I know Adeline will get there and she does go forward every day, and for that I am thankful!

      Wednesday are our crazy school day, I have all our extra on Wednesday.  We leave early to go to piano lesson and then art.  So we don't get much done at home.

     I made this circle book from a photo book to take with us today.  My hope is that Adeline will be able to read it soon, she know all the words except "circle" and we are working on that.

O.K I have a 160 lbs of apples in my house that I need to make into applesauce and can tomorrow.  I think we will be talking about circle apples tomorrow. :)

   

     

Tot School --- Circles day 2

     We played with some laminated circles today.  We just talked about circles.  One of Adeline's therapist told me one time that it takes about 30 times of exposure to get something new in our memory.  Not sure if this is true or not , but I know that the more interaction with a new concept the better.  So this week we are interacting with circles.

     The HELP checklist lists working with a glue stick in the age 2 area.  I have not even though of giving a glue stick to Adeline, but today we did some "sticking".  Now, I used the glue stick and I let her stick it on.  Maybe tomorrow I will let her use the stick at the table.

Tot School --- Circles!

     Adeline has mastered sorting and matching colors.  Yeah, go Adeline!  So we are moving onto shapes.  We are going to start with circles.

     I found this big chalkboard at a thrift store and love it.  So many possibilities!  I think I need three more.  I started by doing some hand over hand with Adeline and making circles on the board.  She thinks this is not necessary and draws her lines.  On a happy note, I did get her to say "down" as she drew "down".  This was a new word.  We started on the floor but I then moved her to her stool to challenge her core a little more.

 

    I have been saving milk caps for over a year.  There are many neat uses for them.  We used them in some of our activities today.  Since milk caps are circles we did some core work crossing midline with our circles.

   

    Ian did a spelling activity while we where doing this.

     We played with a sensory bag, that had circles in it.  I made this with some cheap hair gel and some circle chips added inside.

 
   Last, I traced some circles on a file folder and had Adeline put a cap on the circles.  I was not sure how this would go but she did it.
