Learning Colors

I am on a milkcap run right now.  They are great free learning!  I made this game way to difficult for Adeline but I wanted to have it done so that she could grow into it.

For this activity I used milkcaps and paint chips from a paint department.  You will need two chips of the same color, one for the cap the other for matching.  I cut circles out and glue guned them onto the lid.

You can start however simple or difficult your child needs.  I used about six colors with Adeline.

Sensory Learning

Today we learned with corn starch.  Corn starch is a great inexpensive sensory item.  First we worked on scooping and spooning until that turned messy.  If you child needs to work on using a utensil these type of activities provide some extra practice and also work on fine motor skills.

We used both a scoop and a spoon.

Once things started to get messy and Adeline wanted to put her hands in it we moved on to a sensory bin with corn starch and numbers.  I have been teaching Adeline her numbers with flashcards but I like to reinforce everything with a game or activity of some sort.

One of my little tricks is, I love to find Scrabble games or Rummy O games at yard sales for a few cents.  I love using the tiles for different learning activities.  Today we used our Rummy O tiles to reinforce numbers.

Adeline enjoyed dusting for the tile to discover her number.

I admit we made quite a mess with this activity but it was fun.

Beginning to Count

Adeline is starting to count.  We find her all over the house saying  "one, two, three, five".  She is getting there.  I had a large collection of ice cream lids so I made them into number trays.  If you have smaller ones that would work too.   I have enjoyed using this because they cannot be destroyed.

Sometimes we just lay them out 1 to 10.  Sometimes I use them like flashcards.

Now we are counting objects to add to the trays.  I am still doing this hand over hand with Adeline and just to three.

If you don't have lids this activity could be done on small trays of even paper.
