Alphabet Muck

I love how something so messy and fun can also teach.  Today we played in muck and reinforced our alphabet.  When we where finished Adeline walked around singing her version of the alphabet.  I was sweet.

Muck is a great base to use to add any theme.  You could add colors, shapes, numbers, it has endless possibilities.  It also works fine motor skills.

The recipe I used was:

3/4 cup cornstarch
1/3 cup water
food color if wanted

Slowly add corn starch to water mixture.  Do not stir.  Let the mixture stand for 2-3 minutes.  Use hands to squeeze and mix together.

I found these little letters a Discount School Supply.

Adeline really enjoyed this activity, I think next time we will use some spoons and ladles.

Spring Learning!

The first day of Spring is this week!  So I pulled out some butterflies and flowers.  I used this butterfly pattern and this flower pattern,

We started with matching some colors using buttons.  Pompoms could also be used, I just like button because they take a little more fine motor work.  You could also use tweezers but we are not there yet.

We need to really work on counting so I purchased a piece of foam board at the Dollar Tree.  I cut it into five pieces for the numbers 1-5.  I added some velcro so that Adeline could add the correct amount of flowers to each board.

sorry about my foot

Next, we matched some alphabet letters.  I used milk caps with the letters glued on.

This is one of our favorite butterfly songs.

Alphabet Stick!

We have been doing activities using our oil drip pan lately and I have another for today.  Adeline feel asleep on me half way through so some of my pictures are not as exciting.  We started with our little light table and using some alphabet letter on it.  We just talked about and interacted with the letters.

Later, I set this up on our drip pan. I plan on having Adeline hand me specific letters rather than to put them on.  Later we will work up to matching them the letters.

This is one of our favorite Melissa and Doug alphabet puzzles that we work on often.

Gross Motor Alphabet

I have seen this idea on pinterest using an oil drip pan as a magnetic board and been wanting one for awhile.  The other day while in Walmart I remembered and went to check it out, yeah, I found one.  I just nailed it to the wall and now we have a great magnetic board.

I really like to double up on activities if possible so I sat Adeline on her Trumpette cow and we put on ABC's.  This was fun we did crossing midline activites and talked about ABC's.

Numbers and Letters

We are back!  I took a few days to get some projects done around my house.  When I am schooling many things have to go on hold, so when I get a break I have so much to do.  I just finished painting my kitchen.  I am so happy that is done.

I have been thinking hard these past few day about our new year, and what I need to focus on for Adeline.  I know that we will keep working hard with our flashcards from Brill kids.  I don't know what I would do without this company.  I just don't have the time to create and organize a reading flashcard system, but they do it for me.
I also want to work on the alphabet and numbers.  So I will continue to work with the sandpaper alphabet cards that I made.  I have been working on these number cards that I found at child care land.  This is one of my favorite sources for printables, many are free.

This is the link to the counting pages I will be using for Adeline.

What Adeline will do with these is match the number to the number  and add the correct pompom balls to the card.  I added Velcro so that they will stick.  Right now we will start with the first three cards.

These are the alphabet cards that I made for Adeline.
