Thanksgiving Fun

Today we had some fun learning about some of the things we see in the fall and during the Thanksgiving season.  I have been doing some reading about some of the Montessori  methods and I feel like they work so well with what we are trying to do with Adeline.  I will be incorporating more of these things into our day.

One important aspect is teaching our children how to use everyday tools.  Today we put together a sensory box of fall items and Adeline practiced using a tong, and ladle.  The tong was a little more difficult but she really enjoyed using the ladle.  This exercise requires a lot of turning the wrist and arm, all important skills.   Her favorite were the pumpkins that I found on clearance at Wal mart.

One on one correspondence with pumpkins.

  1. Wonderful activities! I love your sensory box and tong and ladle work! Your photos (and children) are beautiful, too! Thanks so much for linking up with Montessori Monday. I featured your post at the Living Montessori Now Facebook page and added it to my Montessori-Inspired Thanksgiving Activities at http://livingmontessorinow.com/2011/11/14/montessori-monday-montessori-inspired-thanksgiving-activities/

  2. I love the looks of concentration on Adeline's face when she's putting the pumpkins in the muffin tin. My son has a similar look when he's deep in concentration. Thanks for sharing (found you on Living Montessori Now).

  5. I'm writing because I run a sensory site and am looking for great ideas for Thanksgiving. And as any parent, we’re looking for terrific Thanksgiving crafts and ideas for kids with Sensory Processing Disorder and on the Autism Spectrum. Would you add a link to a craft idea or two on our blog? Here's the link to share and get more traffic to your site…
