Beginning to Count

Adeline is starting to count.  We find her all over the house saying  "one, two, three, five".  She is getting there.  I had a large collection of ice cream lids so I made them into number trays.  If you have smaller ones that would work too.   I have enjoyed using this because they cannot be destroyed.

Sometimes we just lay them out 1 to 10.  Sometimes I use them like flashcards.

Now we are counting objects to add to the trays.  I am still doing this hand over hand with Adeline and just to three.

If you don't have lids this activity could be done on small trays of even paper.

  4. I have been following your blog the past couple of weeks. I just want to thank you for taking the time to share what you do with your daughter. I am a homeschooling mother of six. My youngest daughter has DS and is 14 months old. I was feeling very stressed about how I would work with her and didn't know if I would have to send her to school, which I do not want to do. You have really helped me to relax and have given me the tools I need to work with her. I hope you will continue your blog as she gets older. It is such an inspiration to me and I'm sure many others. How old is your daughter? I am just wondering at about what age I should start doing these activities with my daughter? ECI comes to our home twice a week right now until she is 3. We have an OT and another lady deals with language cognition, doing songs with motions and playing with toys, reading books, sign language, etc.
