Teddy bear counters are a wonderful manipulative for early math skills. My 6 year old uses them right now for counting practise and learning addition. When I have these out Adeline always seem interested, so today I put together a list of things to do with teddy bear counters for early learners.
Playing with bears in corn starch.
Working with tongs, ladle and bears in water.
Sorting colors with foam rectangles.
Sorting in a muffin tin.
One on One correspondence.
Patterning
Beginning counting
Bears are great to work with pincher grasp and fine motor skills.

Great post! I am excited to try some of your excellent ideas with my daughter Ellie. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas - We LOVE LOVE LOVE teddy bear counters. Not sure where I found my big ones, but I have the regular size ones and a small set of large ones. My toddler loves doing most of the things you mentioned with them!!! Best investment ever!
ReplyDeleteThese are so great! We have these, but haven't really done much. Thank you for these fabulous ideas! Pinning for future reference! :)
ReplyDeleteI even have those teddy bear counters! Yay! I have to admit I haven't used them much, I will now have a reason to do so, and have ideas of what to do with them.
ReplyDeleteYou have certainly gotten your money's worth from those bears! Look how much you can do with them and a little imagination. Pinning this! Vicky from www.messforless.net
ReplyDeleteThose are so cute! Lots of great ideas for using them :) Looks like fun!
ReplyDeleteWow! I love this idea. You could also do it with colored blocks too! Although those counting bears are pretty irresistible!
ReplyDeleteFabulous! :) Look forward to using some of these great ideas too! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas! It's funny to think that I was creating activities with teddy bear counters in my Montessori school in 1980! Thanks so much for linking up with Montessori Monday. I featured your post at the Living Montessori Now Facebook page and pinned your teddy bears in cornstarch to my Any-Season Sensory Tubs/Sensory Experiences Pinterest board at http://pinterest.com/debchitwood/any-season-sensory-tubs-sensory-experiences/
ReplyDeleteWhat fantastic learning activities! We have the same set of counting bears. My daughter wrote her own take on them awhile back --> http://treehousecity.com/index.php/2012/01/14/learning-to-count/
ReplyDeleteI love all the different activities you've list here!
So many fun ideas! I don't have teddy bears, but will have fun using these same thoughts with other manipulatives.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great set of activities. I am so impressed that Adeline will do all the activities. Goblin would do the colour matching because he likes it but he flat out refuses to try patterns and one to one correspondence is more like one to three.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great selection of activities - I need to get some of these bears.
ReplyDeleteThank you for linking up to Tuesday Tots this week
This is a wonderful list! I love these activities! I'm pinning this--thanks so much for sharing at Teach Me Tuesday!!
ReplyDeleteI featured your post today in my Montessori-Inspired Teddy Bear Activities at http://livingmontessorinow.com/2012/07/09/montessori-monday-montessori-inspired-teddy-bear-activities/

More than 220 bidders were present at the auction which attracted a huge number of telephone and online bidders from around the world. The collection of soft toys to be auctioned covered a date range of 1890 to 1970 and was said to have belonged to a disgraced hedge fund manager who had pleaded guilty to fraud charges in the US.... popular teddy bears
