Making Predictable Books

The other day I wrote about how predictable books have been so helpful for Adeline.  They have been helping her speech, and helping her learn new concepts at the same time.   I wrote how predictable books are written with specific characteristics that enable children to read or learn the text easily.   The text is usually repetitive with rhyme.

Today I made two predictable books for Adeline follow the pattern of Brown Bear, Brown Bear.

The first book focused on bears and colors.  This is not the complete book but it is some of the pages in Color Bears.

The second book that I made focused on butterflies and numbers.  This also is not the complete book.  I went up to five in this book.

When I am making these books I feel that is important to not have many words on a page.  I also make the font large so that Adeline can really focus on the words and I can easily point to each word as we read.  Predictable books are fun and full of learning for children.

  1. I found a used set of three predictable books on Ebay. And just when I was wondering which ones I would get next when she masters those three, you do this terrific blog post! I have been looking into laminators, but undecided on which one. Since you're definitely a laminator pro, can you recommend one?

  9. I happen to run across your site and found these books to be a great idea. Can I ask you where you find the templates for these books? Or did you make them yourself from scratch?
