Pull Box

Developing a pincher grasp can take some time.  I know for Adeline she "raked" her fingers for a couple years before she was a full time pincher.

I had an empty shoe box and today I made a "pull box"  to work on pinchers.  I poked a hole from the bottom to the top with a knife and strung ribbons in the holes from the bottom to the top.  I tied a knot on the bottom so the ribbon could not come all the way through.

The bottom of the box.

The top of the box - ready to be pulled.

This is a pretty simple box to put together to help develop those needed skills.

Jelly Bean Fine Motor

Jelly Beans are the perfect size to work on fine motor skills.  Adeline has never had a jelly bean so I knew she could work on this without being distracted with wanting to eat them.

I found these neat trays at the Dollar Tree with the ice cube trays.  I put some jelly beans in the tray and had her work them out practicing the pincher grasp.  We were also able to talk about taking the beans "out" and putting them "in the bowl".

Next, we took the beans that are now in the bowl and sorted them by color in the tray.  I added one of each color to the tray to give Adeline a start.

The last thing we did was work on scooping our beans.

It was so funny all of a sudden Adeline realized that these must be good, and she stuck one in her mouth.   She loved it!
