Sorting Clothes!

We own this great Melissa and Doug toy.

I love this toy because so much vocabulary can be taught with it.  The names of all the clothes are taught but we also talked about "off and on".  After playing with this for awhile I transitioned it into a matching game.  We have a small pile of clothes flashcards from our Brillkids program.  I layed the cards on the floors and we matched the doll's clothes to the cards.

This activity was helpful because it really works on comprehension.  It brought Adeline beyond the picture on the flashcard to identifying a dress or shirt that looks very different.

  1. Great idea! I just bought this exact Melissa and Doug toy at a consignment sale last week. I love the addition of the flash cards!

  2. I love this!!!! Great idea for maximizing the value of a toy. We have this too, but I never thought of the classifying idea. We'll do it soon!!!

  3. Cool. I may have to get this too. We do something similar when I'm doing laundry. As she hands me each piece, she has to tell me what it is. Shirt, pants, socks, or undies.
