Jelly Bean Fine Motor

Jelly Beans are the perfect size to work on fine motor skills.  Adeline has never had a jelly bean so I knew she could work on this without being distracted with wanting to eat them.

I found these neat trays at the Dollar Tree with the ice cube trays.  I put some jelly beans in the tray and had her work them out practicing the pincher grasp.  We were also able to talk about taking the beans "out" and putting them "in the bowl".

Next, we took the beans that are now in the bowl and sorted them by color in the tray.  I added one of each color to the tray to give Adeline a start.

The last thing we did was work on scooping our beans.

It was so funny all of a sudden Adeline realized that these must be good, and she stuck one in her mouth.   She loved it!

  1. I'm pinning your idea for our April trays. I found this cute Easter Cookie pizza idea that uses them as a topping, so I'll have something to do with them afterwards.

  2. Who would have thought to sort jelly beans! Sort before you eat - Nice!

  3. Aw, this is a great activity for fine motor development. Thanks so much for sharing with Tuesday Tots! I have pinned to the Tuesday Tot Pinterest board!

  4. kids haven't had jelly beans either! I love how she sorted them in a line on the tray--what a great idea! I'm so glad you shared this at Teach Me Tuesday!! See ya' tomorrow!

  5. The inevitable taste test. LOL! Adeline you are too smart, and too cute!
